Hamza Khalid, M.D.

Gastroenterologist

Dr. Khalid joined us in September 2020. He was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan where he completed his medical school from the Aga Khan University. In 2008 he moved with his wife to the United States and completed his internal medicine residency from the University of Minnesota. This was followed by a year of Hepatology and three years of Gastroenterology training at Saint Louis University.

After completing fellowship training in 2015 he spent five years in academics with the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at East Carolina University/Vidant Medical Center as affiliated assistant professor. During his time with ECU, he built his career as a motility expert leading the motility lab and working closely with his gastroenterology colleagues as well as general, thoracic and bariatric surgeons. This led to his additional appointment as affiliated assistant professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences as well as Medical Director of Gastrointestinal Motility. In addition to these responsibilities, Dr. Khalid took on the task of Medical Directorship of one of the multispecialty clinics under the same hospital system.

Dr. Khalid is a well-rounded gastroenterologist with proficiency in both upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. His particular interests are foregut disorders, including esophageal motility disorders, acid reflux, hiatal hernias, and Barrett’s esophagus. He continues his interest in hepatology, managing a wide range of liver disorders.

Dr. Khalid is a firm believer in quality of care and being an advocate for all his patients. He is quite particular about giving his patients the extra time they need in order to better understand their symptoms and cater to their needs in the best possible way.
